I am Soquel Gladrielle. I'm best known for Snarky Chick Lit and Fairytale Nouveau. I believe unrestrained kindness has the power to create positive and lasting change in this world. I write stories about resilient characters who embody this cherished virtue.
My stories are created with care and purpose. When necessary, a great deal of research goes into them. I believe the pen can be mightier than the sword and my lofty aim is to entertain, educate, inspire, and above all change the world with words. My promise to you, my reader, is that my books contain content that is uplifting and heartfelt like your favorite feel-good movie. I write for both Young Adult and Adult audiences but keep things very PG-13 with nothing that will make you cringe if your mom or your child should happen to walk through the room while you're listening to the audiobook. I often address the importance of acknowledging mental health issues, invisible disabilities, and neurodiversity.

My Story
Hi, I'm Soquel Gladrielle. My name is pronounced SOH-kel Guh-LA-dree-uhl BAHM-GARRD-ner but I also answer to Your Majesty. I live with my trophy husband Grant, insanely talented daughter Adelaide Jayne, and our passel of cats. We reside in Las Vegas, Nevada and plan to stay here because “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!”
Experience: In addition to being a writer, I've worked as a professional nanny, a clerk in a nuclear power plant, a cleaning expert for a hotline, an interior decorator, a hotel clerk, an academic counselor at a major university, and a creative writing instructor for a private school.
I've lived in 51 different homes, most notably next door to the famous Oak Alley Plantation and in a Victorian house in the middle of a California broccoli field which was said by locals to be haunted by a ghost in a space suit. Such were my formative years, in case anyone should wonder why I write urban fantasy, alternative historical fiction, and fairy tales in addition to humorous chick-lit stories.
Education: I knew I wanted to be a writer from the time I was seven and wouldn’t be talked out of it by well-meaning adults. Fortunately, I found several well-known authors to mentor me and heeded their advice to get degrees in other fields and gain experience in the real world so that I would have something to draw from when it came to writing. I hold an Associates in Liberal Arts - Applied Design and a Bachelors in Human Services - also known as "Psychology-lite."
Interests: I love to travel, day-dream, do family history, jigsaw puzzles, digital scrapbooking, and occasionally water aerobics. I take naps and walks, read, and eat dark chocolate and Dr Pepper cupcakes. I also like fancy sodas and have a well-stocked pump rack.
My favorite color is iridescent (which is the color of imagination.) If I could have a superpower it would be time-travel. If I had two superpowers, I’d also read minds.
My favorite movies are Tangled, The Princess Bride, Moonrise Kingdom, Napoleon Dynomite, and The Sandlot.
My favorite books (other than scriptures) are Keturah and Lord Death, The Lovely War, The False Prince, Howe's Moving Castle, Flipped, The Alchemist, The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, Spinning Silver, Tress of the Emerald Sea, Persuasion,Tuck Everlasting, and the Happily Ever After Homicide series.
I love to binge TV. I have lost count of how many times I've watched Crash Landing on You. I also like The Chosen, Firefly, Avatar the Last Airbender, All Creatures Great and Small, The Good Place, Stranger Things, Ghosts, Will Trent, and Psych. I adore a good mystery and also an ensemble that feels like family.
